My Love For The Galaxy Far Far Away – Part 2

Second month in, and I still haven’t started Rebels. I really should, after that season final that got all of the internet talking. I have a bit to report on though. Here we go:

Darth Vader Issue #1 – Salvador Larroca is an incredible artist. I loved the two page spread of Darth Vader in front of Jabba with those in Jabba’s Palace behind him. The story was good enough for me to want to see more, but I never got around to buying issue #2.

Princess Leia Issue #1 – I read a tweet about someone feeling okay but not great about this one about a hour before I read it. Safe to say I agreed with him. I was interested in the mini series, but the plot that was set up here, is so less compelling that Star Wars and Darth Vader.

The Empire Strikes Back commentary – Last week I listened to a commentary for a Star Wars film for the first time. Interesting stuff. this is what I learn’t:

We have a episode number in the opening crawl, as it wasn’t allowed for A New Hope, which made George mad. Irvin Kershner first said no to directing. He was also mad.

Irvin wanted to take a more serious tone than George’s ANH, and thank god he did. He wanted humour, he wanted emotion, he wanted character depth. He also loved to fill the screen, something that is noticeable when watching.

Irvin found it amusing we were watching a love story that goes nowhere, to be resolved in Return Of The Jedi.

George says killing off Obi-Wan in ANH lead to Yoda, and he knew they needed something alien like for the long talk scenes. He says doing those scenes were incredible hard, having to block scenes around a puppet. A major reason they went digital latter. The “there is another” line is to show that Luke could die, and that is expandable, unlike someone such as Superman.

Carrie Fisher says they had to take aa two hour break while filming the prison scene with Lando, because it got so heated.

My love for THE GALAXY FAR FAR AWAY – Part 1

I’ve been a fan of Star Wars for as long as I can remember. I’m not sure if I saw A New Hope or The Phantom Menace first, but if it was TPM first, ANH wouldn’t of been far after. I would of been five around that time, and my parents started buying me the toys for the first prequel film, to go along with my Dad’s original trilogy toys from Kenner (you know the ones with a lightsaber coming out of Luke and Darth’s hand).

What followed was buying even more of the toys by the time Attack of the Clones rolled around, and also getting more merch like books and video games. I remember AOTC was one of the first big action blockbuster films I saw at the cinemas, and walking into Revenge of the Sith, I thought it would be the last time seeing a Star Wars film, for the first time.

2K15: What I’m Looking Forward To In The Pop Culture World

Films

The Force Awakens (December)
The hype for this film is massive. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen the amount of press and speculation about a film in my life time. The first thought I had when another trilogy was announced was, if this goes bad, it’s gonna be really bad. As in, Star Wars fans take things super seriously, and something tiny could ruin the film for them. But so far, everyone has been super positive about it, which is a good sign.

Age of Ultron (July)
The first Avengers film took me by surprise. At the time I hadn’t seen any of the five Marvel films that had proceeded it, but I absolutely loved it. And as most sequels go, this one will be bigger and better. On the flip side, some sequels are terrible, but that won’t be the case with this one. With the incredible Joss Whedon in charge we have nothing to worry about. Plus he has been taking inspiration from The Empire Strikes back, only the greatest sequel of all time.

Music

Songs of Experience (Probably not even 2015, more like 2018, because this is U2, right?)
The most hated album of the year was one of my favourites, and ever since Bono mentioned a follow up, I’ve been wanted more from U2.

untitled 7th Kanye album (some time soon)
All through out 2014, there was meant to be a new Kanye West album. We got to end of the year and we had nothing. Now in 2015, it’s looking like a full album will be coming sooner rather than latter, now that a new single “Only One” with Paul McCartney has been released.

TV

Game Of Thrones (April)
The worlds most downloaded show is back again. While I like shows with shorter seasons like Thrones (10 episodes a season), the ten month gap is painful. Luckily the wait is close to over.

Parks & Recreation (January)
NBC’s last decent comedy is nearly over, and they will be missed by many. Blink and you might miss the final season as it will be all over by the end of Febuary. Then all we will have is our memories Lil Sebastian (RIP Lil Sebastian).
