I’ve been a fan of Star Wars for as long as I can remember. I’m not sure if I saw A New Hope or The Phantom Menace first, but if it was TPM first, ANH wouldn’t of been far after. I would of been five around that time, and my parents started buying me the toys for the first prequel film, to go along with my Dad’s original trilogy toys from Kenner (you know the ones with a lightsaber coming out of Luke and Darth’s hand).
What followed was buying even more of the toys by the time Attack of the Clones rolled around, and also getting more merch like books and video games. I remember AOTC was one of the first big action blockbuster films I saw at the cinemas, and walking into Revenge of the Sith, I thought it would be the last time seeing a Star Wars film, for the first time.
But luckily I was wrong and nine years later, watching the short teaser trailer for The Force Awakens, has lead to a massive spike of all things Star Wars again. In the lead up to December 18th, I’m planning to go all out. I’m intending to check out some of the old comics, while buying Marvel’s new Star Wars series every month, watch the two cartoon series’s that I never got around to seeing, and read the books of the expanded universe. While there wasn’t much to report on from myself in the first moth of the year, Marvel’s Star Wars (2015) Issue #1 helped kick things off.
Star Wars (Vol. 2, 2015) Issue #1-2 – Absolutely loved it. I was already a fan of John Cassaday, and Jason Aaron does an amazing job writing. It was amazing how I was reading it, and everything that was coming out of Han’s moth was very Han, or every snappy one liner from Leia to Han felt like something expressed in Carrie Fisher’s voice. Many fans didn’t like Luke and Darth Vader meeting, as they preferred for their first meeting to be in Cloud City, but it was interesting and revealing never the less. Keep in mind that the Lucasfilm Story Group would have some hand in this (maybe a minor one), so with that stamp of approval it’s good with me.
By next month I should of started Rebels and Tarkin!
